Kubernetes cost monitoring tracks what running containers and clusters actually costs and maps that spend to the namespaces, teams, and workloads responsible for it. Native cloud billing shows the total bill for the underlying nodes but not which pod or team drove it, so Kubernetes cost monitoring adds the allocation layer cloud billing consoles do not provide.

How is Kubernetes cost allocated to teams?

Allocation works from Kubernetes labels and namespaces where they exist, mapped to cluster node cost by CPU, memory, and storage requests. Shared cluster overhead (system pods, unused capacity) gets split by usage share across the namespaces that consumed it. The result is a per-namespace or per-team cost even when labeling is inconsistent across the cluster.

Why do Kubernetes pods cost more than they should?
